Smoke Free Campus Established
On July 1st, 2011 East Bay Surgery Center and Saint Anne’s Hospital Pain Management Clinic established a smoke free campus in Swansea, MA. The 6.5 acre site is now off limits to smoking of any kind. Both East Bay and Saint Anne’s feel that, as important health care providers in the community, they have a responsibility to provide the safest and healthiest environment possible to their patients, patient families and clinical staff. Both entities feel that providing a smoke free campus (to all) is a perfect example of their dedication to this mission.
New Surgeons Join Medical Staff
East Bay Surgery Center is proud to announce the addition of three new surgeons to the Medical Staff. They are Dr. Iman Ali from Total Eye Care in Fall River, Massachusetts, Dr. Sarah Anis from the Rhode Island Eye Institute, Providence, Rhode Island and Dr. Durga Larkin from South County Eye Physicians and Surgeons, North Kingston, Rhode Island. Kreg Palko the center’s Administrator says “East Bay is known nationally for its outstanding and talented medical staff. The addition of these three gifted physicians’ compliments our team nicely.”
Perfect Score in Medicare survey
On May 17th and 18th, the Massachusetts Department of Health and Human Services conducted an unannounced Medicare recertification survey of East Bay Surgery Center. The center is proud to announce that it received a perfect score (no deficiencies) from the agency! In today’s highly regulated health care industry, this is a nearly impossible achievement! The results of the survey validates the quality and safety of care that East Bay provides on a daily basis to it’s patients.
East Bay Surgery Center Upgrades Microscopes
East Bay Surgery Center is proud to announce a $45,000 microscope enhancement to all of its cataract microscopes. The center has teamed up with Endure Medical Inc., and has upgraded all of its cataract scopes with the new Illumin-I modules. The Illumin-I is innovative technology and incorporates a creative way to provide the best possible contrast, red reflex, depth perception and resolution. This module allows the surgeon to visualize both the anterior and posterior capsule resulting in a safer procedure. Because of the unique illumination delivery system, the capsulorhexis is obvious throughout the capsular polishing and IOL insertion. With the enhanced contrast and clarity, residual viscoelastic and cortical material are visible so the surgeon can perform a cleaner, more complete cataract removal.
Dr. Charles Collins, Medical Director at East Bay Surgery Center is certainly happy with the new system he says “I thought the surgery center had all the best equipment available. Then I was introduced to the new Illumini- I. Wow! I currently could not be happier with the view we obtain with the Illumin- I. As technology marches on, I know the folks at East Bay Surgery Center will continue to adopt new and better technology like this. Another reason I'm so happy to do my eye surgery here at East Bay Surgery Center.”
East Bay Surgery Center would like to welcome our new neighbor upstairs, Saint Anne’s Pain Management Center.
To accommodate Saint Anne’s patients’ needs, especially the growing number from communities west of Fall River and in the nearby East Bay area of Rhode Island, the Center for Pain Management has expanded to include a new $3.0 M, 11,000-square-foot space upstairs in our building.
The new center duplicates the same “one-stop” care offered at the hospital’s clinic. The facility includes:
- central waiting area
- two procedure rooms equipped with state-of-the-art C-arms for fluoroscopic procedures, such as vertebroplasty
- ten pre- and post-procedure rooms
- two minor treatment rooms
- eight exam rooms
- two behavioral medicine areas
- combined conference/office space.
The location on the Massachusetts-Rhode Island line is easily accessible via routes I-195, 6, and 118 and offers plentiful on-site parking.
“We’re excited that we are able to offer this new facility for our patients,” said Allison Gorski, MD, the center’s medical director. “It allows us to provide the best of patient care in both locations and give those coming from communities west of Fall River even easier access to that care.”
